There is a QT wave interaction that is apparently fairly strong. They may also do a very tiny dose of clozaril earlier; I'm not clear and am not sure Dr. Brain was either since it's not really her decision. She did say having EKGs available would be helpful in getting me on clozaril faster.

They actually have the coloring pages at my unit. They always have and they are set up in a place anyone can get them at any time along with markers, colored pencils and crayons and other easy crafts. I have a bunch at home but won't take them since I know they'll have it. They do help pass the time a lot.

Just Me Jenhttp://www.masterofirony.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21050713.post-80243058791494798052016-01-02T19:59:37.697-05:002016-01-02T19:59:37.697-05:00Are you going to be doing a cross taper of the Ser...Are you going to be doing a cross taper of the Seroquel and Clozapine? That can sometimes help with the withdrawal. But it will probably suck anyway.

When I know I am going to the hospital I bring a book of poetry- short poems. But my last hospitalization someone had brought in those coloring books for adults- or at least made copies of the pages. I did a lot of coloring- a bunch of us did. Maybe you would want to bring in a coloring book and some pens. Just a thought.

I hope your stay goes as well as possible.Jean Greyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13826037279061710386noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21050713.post-23384482988820538132015-12-21T03:51:46.765-05:002015-12-21T03:51:46.765-05:00I can really elate to your pain right now. But since I either need a low dose or a high dose with everything we'll see. It does seem that people who are bipolar need less than people who are schizophrenic from my reading online of message boards. (Less than scientific). But of course some of the goal is sedation since getting me to sleep before 4 AM would be nice. Right now I'm going to sleep at 4 and waking up for at least an hour, usually 2, around 7:30, and then sometimes up for the day another hour later and it's not enough sleep but if I take PRNs I get knocked out. I guess I'll find out soon. I know someone who just started and has been really sedated but her psychiatrist started her on about 4 times the usual starting dose so that's not helping anything.

Sewing is a stress reliever. I wish I were better at it (didn't have hand tremors) because I'd sew all the time if I could do certain things I can't now. I'm so happy with what I've gotten done this year though (assuing I finish all my goals of course). I'll miss it when I'm hospitalized.Just Me Jenhttp://www.masterofirony.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21050713.post-57879405525495936942015-12-19T10:15:25.267-05:002015-12-19T10:15:25.267-05:00I'm glad that you have a plan, but sorry that ...I'm glad that you have a plan, but sorry that it involves a medication that you didn't want to take. It had essentially no side effects and was probably the easiest antipsychotic I've ever been on. But when it wasn't working well at the 2nd dose I quit. I was in such a bad place then, suicidal with a plan and intent and lying about it to everyone as I realized I was done working (and I went on Latuda very soon after hospitalization for lithium toxicitiy so my body was off-kilter too). So it wasn't ideal testing conditions. However Dr Brain did not push me to keep trying so she must have felt it wasn't helping either because with my history I can't just give up on meds that easily. She verified that when I asked her.

I had no EPS symptoms on it. If I'd taken it longer at a higher dose maybe I would have but I am so susceptible to those that my not getting them was a pretty good sign. My psychiatrist isn't even considering other typicals now because my risk of EPS is so high and will always be very high on any drug with a higher risk of it. A new drug called caraprazine is just out and it has scary high EPS risk (15% akathesia and I think 10% EPS or something like that) so I'll not be trying it. Rexulti has about a 5% chance or something like that and we're trying to get some of it to try so that's my upper risk threshold (and it may be too high a risk but it's Rexulti or try ECT that I'm not a super candidate for or Clozaril. One of them within a month).

I know it has been a miracle drug for a lot of people. There was a time that between people in the hospital and people in NAMI I kept hearing people say "I just started this brand new drug and it is making a HUGE difference" and it was always Latuda.

Like I said, no side effects. I don't even remember being drowsy. So much easier to handle than zyprexa. I think it is worth a try; you can always go back to zyprexa if needed but less sedation, less cognitive effects, less weight gain, less almost everything is worth a shot. YOu may need something added for sleep; unless I remember completely wrong it wasn't very sedating. I'm pretty sure I was taking Lunesta with it.Just Me Jenhttp://www.masterofirony.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21050713.post-48974269343592909402015-10-25T08:45:57.130-04:002015-10-25T08:45:57.130-04:00What was your experience with Latuda? I have been considering it recently, hoping it would help with depression and energy, but worried about EPS side effects, and ultimately TD as it is a stronger D2 antagonist than Zyprexa (as least at the dosages that I take Zyprexa). But it is supposed to be better for cognition.

Emily (Jean)Jean Greyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13826037279061710386noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21050713.post-68273634109324193642015-10-20T14:12:57.912-04:002015-10-20T14:12:57.912-04:00I would love to hear from you again soon.

My gyn and Dr Brain both feel strongly that hormones are bad and it has seemed to be true as I've gone through menopause I've overall done a great deal better. This last 10 months aside but the 2+ years before this started since my hysterectomy to this episode showed that my body really hates hormones. That is the one thing I've got going for me; if I still have normal hormonal cycling I would be much worse off. Even Dr Mind has said he can tell a difference without hormones destabilizing every few weeks.

But that is an idea that hadn't come up.....

I hope you can get everything back under control. I have just spent the last month off of the BC pill for various reasons (such as being too depressed to go the the pharmacy and then losing the medication). I am so close to losing it- and taking so much Zyprexa and klonopin. First they have to say they feel it will or will not help, which probably happened but I didn't hear from Dr Brain. If I do it I'll be admitted and go through 3-4 weeks of treatments and then usually some OP follow-ups. We are hoping that I'll be able to do that part closer to home. And if maintenance is offered I'll do it; I've seen someone with amazing results doing that.

We tried for an IOP but I'd have to pay 20% of the total cost (up to my medicaid spenddown which is a lot of money each month) and that just is impossible. Medicare is still not set up for mental health. It's too bad; it would be a good thing right now but not if it puts me so far into debt that I don't have money for food. So instead we just are trying to fill gaps with what we can do--extra time with Dr. Mind, starting a support group soon (this week probably).

Seems like none of this is ever easy.Just Me Jenhttp://www.masterofirony.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21050713.post-12628997508219110462015-09-26T21:13:49.150-04:002015-09-26T21:13:49.150-04:00People sometimes do maintenance ECT to prevent rel...People sometimes do maintenance ECT to prevent relapse.
