Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth." Genesis 9:13

Speaks for itself

It turns out that I'm just 2 years too early:

Starting in 2014, insurance companies won't be able to charge more or deny coverage based on a pre-existing condition.
By then I'll be on Medicare.  But it is good to know that in 2 years time people won't be in my position with COBRA costing too much and wanting a simple HMO and being unable to get one.

I have a lot of mixed feelings about "Obamacare" but from a personal point of view, if it doesn't get overturned, it will be life changing. If I will be able to get health insurance on the private market, if I can get subsidies to help with the premiums, then I am not locked into permanent full-time work until I am ready for Medicare...

Well, and the thing is that you just don't know. A year ago there was no indication that I was going to be facing any of this. Working is absolutely not an option right now; there is no way. Yet if I am approved effective the date that I went on disability through work I'll have spent about 1/3 of my backpay/future pay just on insurance, and this is not good insurance. This is insurance that makes me cringe knowing I have to go see Dr. Body tomorrow for my horribly sore throat because it will be expensive and meds will be out of pocket or samples because I don't have COBRA in place yet (they've been paid but must be processing) so essentially I'm uninsured and then can re-submit later.

This is a terrible situation to be in and yet it's usually sick people who need disability....
