Help

I'm trying to make a habit of spending about 30 minutes per evening in a very warm tub with relaxing stuff. Candles, bubbles, bath salts, etc. (No music, can't tolerate it).

I'm currently using homemade bubble bath, which I'll probably continue simply because it lets me make it very moisturizing which is important. I'm also using Burt's Bees bath salts and lots lavender scented soaps and candles.

I don't have a big budget for this project so don't want to try out too many things. Anyone have any super relaxing products that aren't a million dollars?

One cup of epsom salts, 1/4 cup of sea salt, and two or three tablespoons of baking soda. A little more or less of each ingredient is fine for most bath salts. Epsom salts and sea salt are soothing for tired muscles, while both will gently soften the water for a luxurious bath experience. You could also add a tablespoon or two of finely ground regular oatmeal (not quick cooking) for silky, skin-softening water. Add your choice of essential oil - how many drops you use is a personal preference, but start with two or three drops and see if you like the fragrance. The same goes for the liquid food coloring; sometimes I use quite a few drops of food color to get the strong hue that I like, but so far it hasn't stained the bath tub or anyone's skin. Remember that the color and fragrance will be much diluted in the bath water. Stir the salts vigorously until all ingredients are thoroughly combined.

I made this for co-workers and they really liked it. You can get the essential oils at a health food store. They are very concentrated.

I love to research things like this for others. I think I was a reference librarian in another life. Enjoy!

Fun tips Rachael! Thanks. Now...I might be off to make homemade laundry soap. I've read several recipes on-line and it certainly sounds easy and inexpensive. I use baking soda all the time in my laundry and kitchen.

Oops. Forgot I don't have any borax or washing soda. I'll have to pick those up.

Looking forward to hearing about more relaxing moments, dear JustMe! Let's see...can I find a scripture about bathing and HEALING? (I love biblegateway.com!)

I Kings 5:13-15 Naaman's servants went to him and said, "My father, if the prophet had told you to do some great thing, would you not have done it? How much more, then, when he tells you, 'Wash and be cleansed'!" So he went down and dipped himself in the Jordan seven times, as the man of God had told him, and his flesh was restored and became clean like that of a young boy."

Then Naaman and all his attendants went back to the man of God. He stood before him and said, "Now I know that there is no God in all the world except in Israel..."

"Calgon, take me away!"

Love, Michal
